Tarot card 'Silmaril' lino print

Price

£20.00

This is a handprinted lino print of a tarot card 'Silmaril'. Inspired by old Tarock playing cards, it features my interpretation of J.R.R. Tolkien's Silmaril jewels.

For most of us who love The Lord of the Rings, the light of one Silmaril, the one carried on Earendil's brow as he sails through the night skies, is known as the Light of Earendil. The little vial of light Frodo received as a gift from Lady Galadriel, along with her parting words: 'May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.'

To me, the words and the meaning of her gift, always meant comfort to those gazing into darkness, and certainty, that there will always be light, even when you yourself don't believe it or have the strength to be the origin of.

And while I love this jewel of the sky, there are three Silmarils in Tolkien's world!

The three brilliant jewels, bright as Starlight, were once part of the Two Trees of Valinor, whose last flower and fruit were made into the Moon and the Sun. The Silmarils had a turbulent history, and eventually ended up split between the Sky, Earth, and the Sea.

So here are the 3 jewels, connected by the Creation of Tolkien's world itself, and yet forever apart, each in its own domain.

This linocut is a part of the 'Tarot' series.

Available on premium art paper or handmade Khadi, Lokta and Mitsumata paper.

Please note that each print is unique! Some might be more textured than others, or have small differences from the one shown, as this is a handmade item using a hand carved lino in a hand press.
